The Terror of Abbadia Mare at Hammond Castle Museum

This October, the Hammond Castle Museum proudly presents an original promenade-style performance adapted from John Hays Hammond Jr.'s ghost stories by Doug Cowell. The theatrical production draws from Hammond’s own fascination with the supernatural, blending the eerie charm of 1920s Weird Tales with the kitsch of 1950s Pulp Fiction.

As guests make their way through the castle, they will meet a cast of unforgettable characters portrayed by talented actore. You'll meet Hammond’s loyal butler Hillman to Hammond himself, the stories unfold in real-time across different rooms of the castle. Guests will hear extraordinary tales from Hammond’s mysterious wife, Irene, and encounter figures such as a sailor and a Mason—each with a strange connection to the castle and its history.

This 1-hour immersive experience begins on the castle’s drawbridge and proceeds through multiple rooms within the Museum. Performances run every 15 minutes, with small groups of no more than 15 guests per performance to ensure an intimate experience. Guests are encouraged to dress in roaring 1920s attire to fully immerse themselves in the era!

This program is appropriate for children ages 13 years and older. Venetian Masks and similar attire encouraged.

Performances begin at 6 pm and run every 15 minutes through 10pm.

Admission: Tickets are $25 each.

All proceeds from The Terror of Abbadia Mare will go toward the restoration and preservation of Hammond Castle Museum, ensuring that this iconic landmark continues to inspire and captivate visitors for generations to come.
